Martin Psychology follows all active public health orders set forth by Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) and the recommendations provided by the College of Alberta Psychologists. Initial Free Consultation

I am able to provide a free initial 20 minute consultation to discuss your counselling needs and to determine if I may a good therapeutic fit for you or your child. I am able to speak with you over the phone or arrange an online meeting. Please note, you will need to email or phone me to book this initial consult. This needs to be completed before booking any appointments.


Adult Counselling (Ages 18+)

For adult counselling, I use a person (client) centered approach to therapy, which utilizes a variety of counselling approaches tailored to your individual needs for therapy. I am able to provide these services in-person or online. Please note, you will need to complete an initial 20 minute consultation with me before booking an initial adult counselling appointment.


Parenting Sessions (for Parent(s)/Guardian(s) only)

Before I am able to meet with your child/teen for counselling, parents need to book an initial parenting session to go over the intake and consent forms with me, to obtain informed consent from parents, discuss reasons for therapy, and to establish a possible counselling plan for your child/teen. Before I am able to meet with your child/teen for counselling, parents need to book an initial parenting session to go over the intake and consent forms with me, to obtain informed consent from parents, discuss reasons for therapy, and to establish a possible counselling plan for your child/teen. I am able to provide these services in-person or online. An initial 20 minute consultation with parents will need to be completed before booking this appointment.

*Please note that if parents are separated or divorced, I will require verbal and written consent from both parents if they share custody.


Child/Teen Counselling (Ages 5-17)

In this first session, I will spend time getting to know your child/teen, discuss the counselling process at an age-appropriate level, and use a variety of therapy techniques to help them feel more comfortable, including play and art therapy.

*Please note that parents will have to book an Initial Parenting Session before I am able to meet with your child/teen for the first time.

Melissa is a Registered Psychologist who has over 15 years of experience as a school teacher and counsellor. Melissa has obtained her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Saskatchewan in 2001 and then her B.Ed. degree at the University of Lethbridge in 2005.

After teaching for ten years, she decided to return to university and graduated with a Masters of Education in 2016 from the University of Calgary, where she specialized in School and Applied Child Psychology with a focus on psychoeducational assessments. Melissa has had the opportunity to complete assessments in school districts and in private practice settings.

Melissa has also been providing counselling support to children and teens in schools and in private practice since 2016 as well as adult counselling supports since 2018. Melissa has completed a number of trainings in cognitive behavioural therapy, internal family systems, trauma-informed practices, and play therapy. Currently she is completing her Advanced Diploma in Art Therapy from the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute.

Melissa is invested in developing strong, effective relationships with others. She describes herself as being playful, creative, funny, and curious. Melissa enjoys engaging in meaningful connections with others and to help inspire growth in others.

As a registered psychologist, Melissa’s approaches to therapy include trauma-informed, evidence-based practices with a foundation in cognitive behavioural therapy along with other sensory-based approaches including art, strengths-based, narrative, and play therapy techniques.
